I am a week into the cycle with 1 green chromis in 56 gallons of water with sump and mtd. I have 20 lbs of live rock and 25 of dry rock . I used live aragonite sand and miracle mud in refugium and rodi water. I am starting to see brown algae forming is this normal in a cycle? This is my first reef i only used to do just fish.

Brown diatom algae, a sure sign that your cycle has kicked off...

Should I keep a full light cycle on or it does not matter and what should I expect next?

You don't need light during the cycle, but it won't much matter with diatoms. They'll go away on their own. Next will probably be cyanobacteria.

All part of a normal cycle, you will have several more outbreaks before it's all said and done, as SushiGirl said, the cyano is probably next.

i got my clean up crew from LA. Reef Cleaners is also a good one. Im going with them on my next build. I actually never had any cyano during my cycle. I went from brown diatoms to different types of green algae EVERYWHERE. I had a rough 2-3 weeks. But its no match for a cleanup crew, yellow tand and a phosphate reactor lol

LA = LiveAquaria. They can survive a couple days in transit but are usually shipped overnight.

I buy everything from liveaquaria. During my cycle I had a big diatom
Bloom and then an outbreak of algae I just couldn't get under control. The one thing I found to take care of it is a yellow tang, he grazes on it all day long and has nearly wiped my tank clean!
