wow, so I covered one hole with duct tape and the sump filled about 20% more with water in about a min! It appears its flowing MUCH better now.

Don't cover the hole completely because if you have a power outage there will be no where for the air to go and you won't pull suction again and the tank will over flow. Just leave a small opening somewhere in the top for air to escape. If your Durso's are not glued in just take them out and clean them. I never glue anything together in my OF's just in case.

There is still a small hole on the opposite side of the pipe, and I am pretty sure we glued the pipe :-( DOH!

You glued the pipe to the bulkhead or just glued the parts of the standpipe together?

The siphon will break when it gets below the elbow regardless if there is a whole. There should be enough space in your sump to catches 3" of water or you're running it kind of tight.

I typically drill three 3/16 hole, 2 of which I leave open..... (photoshopped for your viewing pleasure :)

And the other hole would be for fine tuning the amount of air entering/water flow. You could fine tune by inserting a piece of rigid tubing...

And then add some airline and an airvalve....

This is not always (and usually isn't) a set it and forget it kind of deal. You'll appreciate being able to change it later.

Geez my nails were nice back then....LOL!

I came across a neat idea, it was magnets. Same idea as cleaning the glass on your tank, but was used in the pipes.. Of course you can't have water currrent flowing though it.
