So there are a million threads about this but I cant get my search to find what I need. I got my standpipe dialed in and pulling all the water that it can but now I am getting the "hot tub" effect in the sump. Massive bubbles are reaching the sump and affecting the way my skimmer works and everything. What are some common ways to get rid of these bubbles and quite things down in the sump?

Some history on my plumbing. My drain goes into a "T" that splits to my fuge and my skimmer section. Then there is a 90 that goes straight down about 2 inches from the bottom of the sump.

You can make a bubble trap that will reduce that effect if its necessary, assuming there is room in the skimmer section...

If I get rid of the hard plumbing on that side and go with flex tubing would that help reduce some of the bubbles?

I don't know. I am using vacuum hose and do not have a bubble problem.

You need a smaller hole in the cap of your durso. Its allowing too much air into the plumbing.

I always went with a smaller hole and a ball valve so that it could be dialed to the specs of the return pump.

If the hole in the cap is too large for the pump, it will draw extra air giving you the bubbles, not to mention the splash and the saltcreep that will come with it.

You could experiment with different sized holes and see if it helps. Start with a pin hole and expand it as necessary for your flow.

Incorporating a filter sock where the drains enter the sump would also fix it.

If I put to small of a hole it just causes the Durso to go full syphon and I get the gurgling sound. I dont want to back the pump down if I dont have too. At the amount of head I have the pump should be around 600 gallons per hour wich the standpipe should do easily. I only used 1" pvc should I goto 1 1/4" like may say to do? I am happy with the water flow right now just not the bubbling in the sump.

I agree with the filter sock...it will help a lot.

However, as for "hole size" in the cap, instead of fooling with that, increase the number of 3/16" holes in the cap as needed. You can shove a short (1") piece of rigid airline into the last hole (if it's too much), add a short piece of flex airline with a regular ol' air control valve to adjust the amount of venting.

FWIW, I use "pool vacuum hose" into a filter sock(s) for my drains as well.

Your other choice is to adjust your return flow a bit. I generally add a T back to the sump/fuge with a valve so I can adjust the amount of bleed off. I prefer this method to simply valving down the pump inline with the return. This can help with balancing your drain-return ratio for "max quiet".

Where do I find said air control valve? I have been looking everywhere for them.
