I thought they took that thing away from you I havnt seen you around tazing people in awhile!!!

I too get attached to the guys and was kind of against the purchase but it was kind of a must have considering the only reason my wife let me set up a SW tank in our living room was so we could get Nemo and Dori. She was upset enough when I told her all those other tangs and large angels she loved so much are not going in our tank.

I have never tried to catch a dwarf angel but I have had to catch female cyps after spawning to get the fry and they are the fastest FW fish I have ever owned lol. Im assuming at night with patience would be the only way?? Im not only concerned with them eating coral but showing aggression towards other tankmates. How are the flames temperament?

    Good to know thanks Vinny.

Going off topic since you found your tazer again, am I correct in assuming the Blue Hippo will need to be removed around 4-6inches in length? Im assuming he will let me know through aggression when the tank becomes to small for his liking so until then just tyring to guess at what size that will occur

I have kept these dwarfs: flame angel, potter's, coral beauty, bi-color

The consensus that most have on them is mostly what you mentioned, it can be luck of the draw, 50/50, each fish can be different. My personal opinion is that they will nip at some point or another, may be in days, months, years, but it will happen at some point. It may not ever be something you will notice, or it may be the opposite depending on what they may get a taste for.

Here's the rundown of what I've kept and any issues I've had:

    - Flame angel, hardy, beautiful fish, very active, it didn't bother my corals at first. I have mainly LPS, softies, no SPS. Over the months it began to nip at my Maxima and then I got rid of it

    - Potters Angel, my fav dwarf, gorgeous, not hard to keep IMO. I am fairly ocd about water quality though so. again, started good, but over the months it developed a taste for my Gorgonia and then Maxima so I eventually got rid of it.

    - Coral Beauty, hardy fish, active, I didn't have it long enough to observe any nipping. It was more shy than the others

    - Bi color, pretty fish, not hard to keep even though some say it is. I got it eating frozen food fairly quickly. It is listed as one of the worst offenders in terms of nipping and whatnot. It didn't take it long to go after my Maxima, maybe a month. The clam stopped coming out so I got rid of the bi-color and it was fine.

    Hope that helps a bit.

Agreed!! Man that clam must have been tasty if everyone loved it so much! I have heard they are very fond of clam mantles more so than corals and do not have the desire or lights to keep a clam alive in my tank so that will not be an issue. Thank you for your post!

Starting to wish I had rethought my flame purchase... Beautiful fish, very active, very docile and swims with the others allot. that said, my coral bug is spreading and my tank is expanding past having just a couple hundred mushrooms in it! Mostly LPS and softies,I do have a monti cap which has been in the tank a couple months now. Haven't really had any nipping issues however... Picked up a free frag of birds nest a while back. He started nipping it almost immediately, unfortunately the ride home was really rough on the frag and it was stupid hot out that day and I think I basically cooked it :-( but it was fairly alarming the interest he showed in it... Honestly afraid to spend money on a sps frag now just to have it eaten...

SO when angels eat corals do they usually pick at sps or lps/softies? I guess its as much in the air as is whether or not they nip at all?

well fwiw I've never seen mine touch a softie... Same with my LPS, he's nipped toward the monti a couple times but honestly I don't think he was going after the monti I itself. I only have three , hungered softies mostly mushrooms.

Thanks for all the input guys, I picked up a small flame angel still under 2 inches. Ill keep him well fed and watch for nipping. I know angels prefer sponge in their diet will he eat the pineapple sponges?
