How quickly do dwarf ceriths reproduce and how? I have added about 20 to my tank from reefcleaners about 3-4 months ago. Last night I was looking at my glass and it was covered in them! I couunted around 40 just on the glass alone. Is there such a thing as too many? What should I do with them? I know some snails are reproducing, I have a ton of the white spots with the little orange eggs in them on my glass; I just always thought they were from my nerite snails because the egg pouch is large compared to the dwarf.

well it depends on how well they are cleaning your tank. if they are doing a great job already, you could strike up a deal with your lfs for the smaller ones. or you could just keep them all but if there are to many and not enough algae some might starve and die.

is that what you were looking for or something else ?

Yeah..I was wondering how easily they would starve, because my tank has been spotless lately and I very rarely scrap any algae anymore. Its also unbelievable how quickly they reproduce I suppose... I never see any really small baby ones.

once the algae runs out they stop reproducing. we see noticeable spikes in their population when cyano and film algae are available, when it is not they stop reproducing. your tank is clean because they have feasted, (there is always film algae even if you cant see it, it is only when it becomes very dense does it show itself. have you felt the front glass on the inside of the aquarium and noticed a semi-slickness on the glass? film algae, usually you can see it form earlier when you look down into the tank and then out the front glass).

The only reason you would have to many is bc of the lack of food, other than that i would say no

Seems to me that things should work themselves out naturally. I was wondering the same thing as Phil, and then figured it would probably come down to supply and demand. No food, no reproduction...
So, thats what those white spots on the glass are?
