I agree. Don't make this too hard, or the efforts can become tiresome. Unless you really want the experience of pouring your time and money into keeping them nice and fat, maybe go a slightly different direction. Now, if this is an experience you want, your pod population can indeed be pumped up, but the tank will always be a battle (unless you get them eating frozen).

I had one in my 90 for 8 years with a 35 gallon refugium and it barely sustained him.(of course I did not dose Phtoplankton or add any pods to my tank) but thats the whole point and why I never recommend someone adding these fish to small tanks. Can it be done?Maybe; but it usually doesn't end well. Either you pollute the tank making maintenance a nightmare or you slowly starve the fish which can take months. The ammount of pods consumed by these fish is really incredible they hunt from dawn to dusk.

Oh, oops. I'd def dose a quality phyto. Build little rock rubble mounds tucked away in places as pod shelters. I would try very hard to get them onto a frozen diet. Your life will be so much easier.

Well the refugium is packed with rock and chaeto. Tank has probably 150lbs of rock between sump and main tank atm.

I believe he settled on a dwarf lion. If you got a Fu manchu, it may go in with the smaller fish. They can be much harder to convert to frozen, though.

so youre saying you want to place the eel in the sump? kinda pointless no? i mean sure thing the eel is a nocturnal predator but dumping him in your refu would be a waste. then again i dont know what your set up looks like.

If you are going to be moving these fish into another aquarium I would use that as an opportunity to train them to eat frozen food. A small breeder box works very well and you could do it one fish at a time. First try feeding some live brine if it feeds on them next try to mix a little frozen Mysis in with the brine.Getting them to eat out of the water column is the biggest hurdle as this is totally unnatural for them. People have also had good luck with Nutramar Ova. This is basically prawn eggs and sinks to the bottom so I would give them a shot. Good luck.;)
