They eat dwarves. Occasionally, they'll snack on an elf or a hobbit.

I agree with saw. Also, they require really good water quality. Not a good starter fish and require extra attention.

    OK, but seriously folks...
They will eat silversides and other salt water fish. They love crustaciens, so don't add a small arrow crab to the tank (speaking from experience!).
DO NOT feed them goldfish. They'll either choke on the goldfish or die from malnutrition.

Dwarf Lion fish are on the more advanced list of fish to keep.

If you really want one; I strongly recommend starting up a little larger tank.

You could always post you 29 gallon for sale and use those $$$ towards a 55 Gallon. You'll be glad you got a bigger tank now instead of later.

I had a 29 and got rid of it for a 38 gallon tall. It has the same base dimensions so I could use the stand and custom canopy on top.

The 38 tall might work for you if you have an expensive stand, but otherwise wait and get a larger tank for that Lion. I think they are really cool to watch and fun to watch during feeding time, you friends will love it...

Ahhh, um, you can pretty much say goodbye to a clean up crew and any small fish that's slow and docile. And because of what they eat, they poop a lot which can lead to a nitrate issue. Messy eaters also. I tried a FO tank w/ d.lion, niger trigger and a porc puffer. Just too messy.

I had a 29 gallon tall hex with a full-sized lion in it. It worked, but he was lonely.
