    Hey all,

I've had my new 28-gallon tank for about a month now. I put two pieces of bali live rock in the from the start. They had been sitting in a tank in the store for over a year. One of them is covered in a purple/maroon coat (I believe that's coraline algae) but the other is covered in a pale green mossy coat with solid what patches. Is the second covered in dead algae? The ammonia readings in my tank are just a tad about zero.

It may be nothing, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

    Thanks!

It would be easier to tell if you could take a pic.

live rock, especially as it matures can be all sorts of colors, not just the purple/blue/white that you normally see. Some of those can be bad. Is your cleaning crew up to spec for that 28g?
Stats from the ASAP stats sheet would also help.

    Pictures are worth 1000 words.;D

The purple does look like coraline, but the other one looks just like regular live rock. I don't see anything that is of concern or abnormal.

I see nothing wrong here, they look fine to me. If your live rock is dieing watch for an Ammonia spike.
