After being a moderate smoker for around 10 yrs and trying to quit for about 2 yrs, I finally got my hands on the electronic cigarette today.
I just decided to start this thread for the folks who want to stop smoking and can't seem to fight the urge. I've only been using it for a couple hours now so I can't say if it works for sure but after looking at some reviews on youtube etc, I think it's worth a try.
This is the one I got. The refill liquid comes in a variety of flavors such as menthol, tobacco, chocolate, strawberry, pineapple, even red bull:eek: etc etc

Cool, interesting, I'm subscribed. I'm unfortunately a smoker of 10+ years & I need to quit asap. I have a daughter on the way & need to be around at least until she's 75 :)!

I hope this does the trick for you, K+ for wanting to quit!

How does it work, you mentioned liquid? I've tried a few different things, cigs made of lettuce (don't ask lol), cold turkey, etc. Never tried hypnosis yet, but I'm interested.

I actually make my own so it's cheap which doesn't help me stop :). You really have to want to quit, that is the only way it'll work.

my buddy uses a e-cigarette of sorts. im not sure the actual brand he uses now. he's ordered several different kinds over the last two years (he was one of the first to ship them from china). now he's using some euro branded one. im not even sure which.

he loves em. if you're using it to quit smoking forget it. you wind up not knowing how much nicotine to regulate. the e-cigarette is capable of delivering up to 2x more nicotine than a cigarette. because its in liquid form and you can actually choose the mg of nicotine in the filler chamber. ive been told this is a currently un-govt regulated substance so they dont have to follow any sort of 'requirements'.

i have several friends that bought them in hopes to quit. they now just smoke more than they did before.

Though nicotene is dangerous over the long haul, it's not as bad as the tar, cyanide, and all the other horrible chemicals in the cigarettes that cause lung cancer and such. So I think this would be a good place to start!

I used them for a month or so. They helped cut back my smoking but never really replaced it. I went back to smoking. I am now 6 months quit, I used Chantix. I think if you want to quit you have to quit all sources of nicotine, that's what your addicted to. Any how I hope they do work for you. Any way you can quit is a good one. :)

i didnt smoke for 10+ years. i smoked for about 7. being in a high stress IT environment i got the point where i was over a pack a day. the only method i found to work is having the mental will power to WANT to fight it. and thats what it is, its a mind over matter fight. your body because you've warped so many nerve endings at this point is going to go through a withdrawl due to the lack of nicotine in your system.

i tried the patch, i tried the doctor laser stupid thing, and i tried the e-cig when it came out. the ONLY method me or ,anyone i know whom has quit, has been to cold-turkey. make sure you take a couple days off work unless you feel you can handle the added stress. make sure your family / friends are aware and supportive. if you have friends that like to continue to smoke near you while you're trying to quit, you need to back off of them for about a month till your body starts to adjust. there on out its a matter of will power to not have the craving to get that little euphoric feeling you once got from that little tobacco filled cig.

no doubt! its a great tool to use for quitting so long as you can self-regulate it.

oh and from a cost savings perspective, beside rolling your own (which is starting to not be so cost saving as they've started to tax the hell out of loose tobacco locally), is the e-cig. my buddy calculated a savings of ~$50/month
