Well the most effective method that I've tried thus far was cold turkey. That worked for 2 months until I started back going out drinking with friends lol.
Well this is day one with no real cigarettes. No urges yet but I do feel like going out tonight hummmm...:p
I think the point of the different mg of nicotine is to gradually go from high concentration to moderate to low and then to none at all. I hope to get to the no nicotine refills asap.
Indeed it will save a lot of money because one refill bottle of the flavored nicotine is at minimal cost and it could last quite a while. I think one bottle is the equivalent to 5 packs or something like that.

I am a 30 year smoker that has never had the desire to quit. I don't want to! I like smoking! However, I do recognize the danger to me and those around me (although my doc is amazed that I have smoked for as long as I have and my lungs are still in GREAT shape). My hubby was diagnosed with COPD and quit smoking 6 months ago using Chantix and he swears by it. I have a prescription sitting on my desk......

It really is a physical addition no different to drugs, so it is way more than just mind over matter. When a druggie detoxes he either goes cold turkey and suffers the effects or uses some other chemical to help ease him over the rough spots until the mental additction is broken as well.

Siddique - I wish you luck with the e-cigarette, whatever works for you is the best way to go.

Peredhil - Let me know when you get psyched up enough, maybe I will join and get that prescription filled.

wow. 30 yrs is a long time for smoking.
Chantix sounds like a good drug but I think for me, I need to feel like I am smoking and that's what the e cig does for me. I'm also quite excited about the different flavors. The red bull in particular lol.
If this fails, I'll give the chantix a try.

My dad uses them.. I like to take it from him and pretend to burn myself... Great party trick.. And yes I have chased my 6 yr old with one. But only once, or twice, or oh heck... Never mind.. Like I said they work for my dad...

    another 30 year smoker here - yes , 15 I was when I smoked my 1st ciggarette

have gone cold turkey for up to 6 months, but there was always a desire to smoke, it never left me

the dangers as others have said are when your out drinking, a beer and a smoke
or after a meal is another time the desire is strong

my grandfather never smoked but he passed away in his 60s - a Malboro lights advertising board fell on him - apparently not as light as it claimed? LOL - ironic humour?

Lol. I'll try chasing around my 6yr old cousin with it this weekend might be fun lol.
You beat me by 20 months lol. I've tried the inhaler and the gum. Never gave the patch a try tho. Congrats on your success.

Not quite sure what to make of the last statement - whether that is serious, or a joke. Kind of funny but sad at the same time, if it's true. Funnier if it's not true.

I'm back on the quitting team for the time being. Hopefully it sticks this time.
