Ive had this awesome EE shroom for about a year. Hes been happy, healthy, growning wider ...etc. Over the past week he has developed areas where his texture is changing to smooth. It began in the upper part but now has subtle spots of it throughout. H2o params are perfect (Im checking it everyday), same lighting, same position on his rock and in the tank where hes always been. No mucus discharge anywhere. Sufficient phytoplankton, rotifiers, etc. I target feed corals a few times a week. Same old routine ....what could this be?? PLEASE HELP ...I love this dude!

Hard to say if anything is wrong. If it does not open much or something like that then I would worry. It seems as thought it is healthy just changing texture. Check underneath where it touches the rock and see if something new is going on there.

Thanks 2in10 ....Forgot to mention that ...I did check underneath and all is well. Also, he did slide himself down the rock about an inch after having never moved from day 1. He still opens but only at 70-80% (still quite large @ 10+ inches ....he was just a little 4" dude when I bought him). I wouldnt think hes burning or bleaching after all this time. Can shrooms burn/ bleach? Hes at the top of my tank near the lights. (t5 HO/ actinic 48 total watts)and (coralife 65watt).

Yes they can bleach, that may be what is happening especially since it isn't opening as much and moving down.

After all this time, he begins to bleach. Another odd thing the may be worth noting .....my small frag of favia, which is at mid depth & flow level has always been open ....until 2 days ago. Hes been closed up completely but looks healthy. I wonder what these things are all about... out of the blue after a year.

Scour the tank for any odd and out of place growths. Check out your sand to see if it is getting nasty and releasing it. When is the last time you changed bulbs?

The sand is good, I just sifted it last h20 change 2 weeks ago ....due for another change tomorrow, as i do it every other week. All bulbs were changed in mid February.

Ill Add more lighting info. my HOB equip allows for 8.5 inches for lighting (36g bf). 1 fixture is a solarmax HO t5 with 1 daylight 10k and 1 actinic. The other fixture is a coralife with 1 65 watt daylight and 1 actinic). Not sure if this provides any useful info. Id prefer to get a 4 bulb unit and do away with 2. 2 bulb units, but a 4 bulb until is hard to find for a 30" wide tank.
