Ok cool. Thanks. I will clean it more often. I know I should anyway. I don't think I have turf algae yet, the red on my screen is cyano. I was doing a little reading and apparently the turf algae takes a while to develop, almost a year, if it's not seeded.
The GHA is doing a great job though and is apparently easier to clean so I'm happy with it.

I was going to use phos ban to get my phosphates down, but I've always heard it's bad for SPS corals...

I'm going to try this first. Thanks for the post!

    Yeah no problem.
What's wrong with phos ban? Does the same go for gfo?

I was doing some more research and it seems like the GHA is better than turf because it gives the same benefit and is easier to clean without the risk of getting turf algae in ur dt. Is there a way to prevent the turf from developing?

alumina based media is supposedly bad for corals, especially if the residual dust gets on them. GFO is supposedly safer, but it's about 4x as expensive!

so the whole concept behind this is that you run your tank water over a screen so that algae develops ont he screen and not in your tank??

Or ok. Hopefully this helps then. Good luck.

    Thanks.

Yeah. The algae would grow quicker on the screen because it would get a lot more light and CO2. This would also help aerate and cool your water, especially if you put a fan on it.

Very cool! I let this type of algea grow crazy in my HOB filter, mine is kind of a mini-me of yours. haha I took the top off, which allows the spill over light from LEDs to grow the algea.
