this thread and your pics Really got my mind spinning because i didn't realize this was total filtration and possibly a pod producer. i did more research and found a .doc by SantaMonica on another forum. really opened my eyes to what these devices can do(exporting pounds of algae per week). i will certaily try this in the future. an in sump system could be had for ~30$!

Cool. I'll do some more research on it. But what would be the advantage of turf over GHA? Does it use more nutrients?

That's cool. Glad I could help.

If you do enough research and a decent build some people claim to not have to run a skimmer at all, and do very minimal water changes (still dosing though). I run just a ATS/skimmerless on my 75 but I also have a lightly stocked tank and a heavy stocked CuC. I had some marco's in the fuge but they more or less got starved out by the ATS. I do a 10g or so water change ever 2-2 1/2 weeks. I do have some codium and a few other macro's in the DT as well, but nothing that would have a severe impact.

Good to know. Seems to be working for you.
I'm thinking that i'll keep running my skimmer though. I already have it, so why not.

Agreed, if you have it by all means use it. lol. Even though my ATS is working for me I have been debating a small HoB skimmer, or maybe a reactor from BRS just for some extra peace of mind.

Yeah my ATS is undersized for my tank anyway. I didn't size it, or use appropriate flow. I put what would fit and used the available flow and light.
As long as the end result is a healthy tank, I'm fine with it.
