Great Deal ! Sorry to hear one passed on you - I have found Ricordia to change their difficulty with their coloring. I had an orange one that I just couldn't keep - it was incredible, but my tank was unable to support it and I never learned why….can’t tell you how much that bothered me.

I wish you luck with this little bugger, and I expect pictures as he grows !! (please)

The one that passed was fluorescent pink and green. I should have read up on them before getting it. I was running 6 bulbs at the time and put it on the sand but in full light. The mouth was gaping when I bought it which it turns out is a bad sign.

Is that the reason it passed is that it wasn't well to begin with or did you fry it with too much light as well, guess I need to read up on them as I've read too much of all the different corals and may have a few mixed up as to the requirements.

The colors of your last one sound very pretty too bad it died.

I'm going to go with a combination of both. They do not need a lot of light and apparently a huge majority are found in a vertical position. That is for both species of Ricordea. The Ricordea florida is much more forgiving of errors.

I have some orange/green ones. I started with one, and I now have it along with 5+ babies. It was aquacultured prior to me though. From what I know, wild ones tend to melt, like you've experienced. This one was very hardy for me. I placed it near the sand, but it has "walked" into a slightly darker crevice from where I initially placed it. Some of the babies have started to run towards the shade too, but they're all growing.

I find it interesting how they "drop" babies, whereas the Florida rics split.

    *Edit:
I actually have a great pic; recent too! :)

The big one (original) started on the center of that frag disk, where the piece of rubble is still attached.

Great shot evolved, I have placed mine on the sand at the edge of the tank underneath a little overhang. Yesterday it had opened up enough to cover all of the rubble it is attached to on the plug. I will most likely remove it with the ruble and attach to the rock it is by. Thanks for the info.
