I want to make an eclipse 6 into a nano reef, but I need to get better lighting into it. I'm thinking CPs. Has anyone tried this or know anyone that has? I'd like to find out as much as I can before I go messing with wires. (Wires scare me:shifty:)

my girl friend had the eclipse hex 6gallon and just used a screw in pc bulbe but it was'nt enough for growing more than coraline.then the light burned up,then the filter broke.after 5 months we went and bought her a 28bow tank.you can get a 8watt pc fixture i think from coralife, maybe 2 i'm not sure but its an idea.

9" Mini-Aqualight 2-9W (Coralife) you'll have to take the eclipse cover off but that will give you a chance to fit a better filter on it.i also think there is sites for customizing them

I also have 6 gal picotype sitting on shelf which will get setup someday when I have urge.

But my current tanks keep me busy enough for now. :-/

I just set up a 5.5 gallon. I love it. Adding corals as we speak.. 2 Montipora's and a candycane coral...

Well I think we can help too...

I had the Eclipse 6 setup for years until literally last week when my Tiger Barb of nearly 10 years finally died. (RIP BUDDY!)

I used the light that Ziggy suggested and took it apart and cut the reflector to fit the hood. Then I literally screwed the PC bulbs in the hood.

    Here is a pic:

The two 9w PC lights worked pretty well, but the company that made the good bulbs stopped making the 9w versions. Personally I wanted more light, but that hood makes it hard.

    Hope this helps, good luck!

Thank you for the replies everyone.

I've looked at the hood on the eclipse 6 and it looks like it will be a real pain. I was hoping to be able to fit something with more wattage than 9 watts on the end that is longer, but since it's a bow front I don't know if that will be happening.

18 watts for 6 gallons just doesn't seem like enough light for a nano reef. If anyone comes up with something let me know pls! Oh, and thanks for the nano forum suggestion!

With a little work you might be able to wedge a 70w HQI metal halide bulb in there. You would have to have some fans to cool it though.
