So I had posted earlier that I was having some recent issues with my MP40w randomly falling off the wall. It finally decided over the weekend to lock up completely, so it's done. Luckily I had a spare K3 laying around. But, since I put that K3 in there one of my corals is looking rather sickly (even though I moved it to try to get as much flow as possible), and now my pH has climbed to 8.27 (it's normally around 8.19-8.21).

I have no idea how long it's going to take to get this issue fixed. Any recommendations in the meantime?

The ph issue is not really an issue, that reading is fine. What locked up on the mp40? Are you getting it fixed?

Sorry to hear the pump locked up, sounds like you need a new magnet on the wet side (how old was it?) Ph is ok, no worries - any other pumps you can gett in there for circulation in the interium?

I had the identical problem. Contact Vortech in New Jersey and they'll fix it. They did mine for free. Can't remember the guy's name, but he was very helpful. It was a gasket, and wet-side assembly. It's a subsidiary of IceCap, believe it or not. At least, that was in the address. I paid shipping to them, they paid shipping back to me.

    Good luck!! :)

It's the bushing/bearing that the prop sits on. It's a two piece part that is supposed to spin, the prop sits on it and spins as well. But the bushing/bearing had started to stick, and then locked up completely. It won't spin at all. So far I'm disappointed in the service, it's taking way to long to get it replaced, since it's under warranty.

My concern is that the pH has been rock solid for months, not the specific number I posted. The issue is that the pH has now climbed from 8.2 (give or take) to 8.28, and it was still climbing before I did a water change. Since this climb happened right after the MP40 crashed, my guess is that it is related. Since it continued to climb, my guess is that it wasn't a good thing.

So the water change brought it down to 8.25, which is a number I'm really comfortable with. But it went right back to 8.27 (not bad, but might be climbing again). If it continues to climb what else can I do besides water changes?

How do you manage pH levels? You address whatever issue is causing the spike/dip.
Water changes are the WORST way to attempt to control pH. About the only way worse would be pH buffers.
What time of day are you testing? And, how are you testing pH? Have you ever done a daily testing procedure where you test the pH during the day/night and then see the swing the tank goes through?
What are Ca/Alk/Mg levels? They have an impact on pH.

Figure out what caused the pH to change. Then whether its part of the daily swing of the tank or not. Then if its an issue, you solve the issue causing the problem, not the symptom.
pH is the symptom, whats the cause?

Ecotech Marine is not a subsidiary of Icecap (never was either) and they are located in Bethlehem, PA. Icecap helped the EcoTech Marine team in the start but EcoTech is 100% their own company.

    Here's their CS number (800) 785-0338 ext 3

    try here first though...

mscottring, where are you located in Cali? I might know some one that will let use borrow his MP40 wetside for the time being.
