Hey there I have had my Fluval Edge running saltwater for around 10 weeks now and its going pretty good, but I'm still pretty new to the game and I was looking at my adjustment for the water flow out of my filter and it made me think whats the purpose for having an adjustment like that? When would it be appropriate to adjust the settings?

The setting adjustment may be required, if you where keeping species that did not want a lot of water movement, and thus you could restrict flow

also if a filter with restrictable flow was being used for chemical media, there may be some cases where slowing the flow through the filter and thus over and around the media may be beneficial

also if you had an HOB filter and wanted to make it into a HOB fuge - again the ability to slow the flow through that fuge would be beneficial

but in general, its a facility I have had on many cannisters, HOBs etc, that I have never really needed to use

aside from most recently a Fluval 4 in Discus tank - slowed that down for the comfort of the fish

I use to own an edge...these size tanks are way to delicate...
i noticed in mine is you must do frquent water changing in order for this little system to survive and florish ....
If you kind of ease off from this routine your basically looking into cycles and leading to crash's..good thing I shut this down and sold it off...
