I understand the physics behind these devices, but lack any personal experience with them. So I turn to the rest of you for your experiences and opinions of these things.

I have no experience with them, but what I read leads me to believe they are better for very large tanks. They seem to work better under high pressure.

What interests me in them is the fact that they are able to do so much for your tank for such a small cost. They are able to increase flow by up to 400%, so your 500gph sump turnover will be putting out somewhere near 2000gph within the display tank. Basically turning your sump return into a miniature closed-loop setup.

Its all fluid dynamics.. My belief is that the gains increase with pressure and flow.. Lets say for example you have 250 gph through it, I bet it would put out 200% where as you put 600 gph through it and it will pull the full 400%.. Just what I have learned in fliud dynamics and hydro flow classes.. correct me if Im wrong, Im always up for criticism..

Is a good read indeed, and that only interests me even more. But still no one here has personally used one?

Honestly, never heard of them until yesterday. It does look very interesting. From what I gather, you need a external, high pressure pump for it to work. Doesn't seem worth the extra cost on the pump until you get into the bigger tanks.

From what I've read, while these devices require pumps with a decent pressure rating, flow rating is of little importance as long as you match the pump with the correct orifice size.

I've read threads where where people with Mag 9s, 12s, and 18s have said they work. So It's not like you need a huge pump for these to work. That being said, the larger the pump, the more efficient it works. For example, a Mag might only produce an extra 2x water turnover, but a larger Iwaki may produce an extra 5x turnover.

Really, that's worth looking in to then, I run a Mag 24 on my return.
