I would probably do a filter with no skimmer on a fish only. Just do a decent water change weekly.

The protein skimmer will extend the time between water changes...

I agree, and even a small hob would let you run mechanical and chemical filtration if needed.

do a skimmer! those things are pigs, and in that size a tank they can crash it in no time without a skimmer, i am usually tepid when it comes to skimmers but in the case of eels they are so messy you really need one. i would also suggest upgrading to a 55 or 75 in some time, the eel will get much too large for that little setup.

I had a snowflake in a 30 by himself with one fluval canister filter. Never going to make that mistake again. You see snowflake eel are pigs they eat alot and are VERY messy. I went with out a protein Skimmer 7 months later there was so much algae you couldn't even see through the tank. Trust me my name says it all haha:)

And the HOB will be great for running carbon. I always use one just for carbon on my smaller tanks.

Also, make sure you het a VERY tight fitting canopy. Reps are extreme escape artist, and nothing is creepier than a rogue moray slithering about your house.

The 29g is temporary hes killed a few fish so he needs his own tank. Once I get the 125 all the fish and coral will go in there and he will be moved back into the 55

Thanks for all the advice I will do both a skimmer and HOB
