I made covers out of egg crates to keep my fish from jumping out if the tank ( I have lost 4 already). What does everyone think? Will it effect the LED lighting? I was going to use the chrome egg crate to reflect some lighting but it was double the amount of money.

small fish can still jump through the holes. I would get some window screen and make a frame to fit. Buy a cheap window screen kit from lowes or home depot. It's like $7. Then find some clear screen or buy this from BRS Clear Netting - Bulk Reef Supply The clear screen will allow more light than the black screen.

This is mine with black screen on it.

Eggcrate will restrict light from getting to the tank. Remember it is actually sold as a diffuser for ceiling lights. I agree on the netting but disagree on the color. I have a tank with the clear and a tank with black. Both allow full light through, no shadows, but the black looks nice a sleek while the clear looks just horrible.

Looks neat, but I agree in relation to it restricting the light. Link248's idea might work though and looks as though it might allow more light through?

This is the way you want to go if you do not want a canopy as the diffuser definitely reduces light to the tank and small fish can get through.

I saw some were i can remember now a clear mesh made of nylon, like the one used for fishing, that wont block much light and will keep fish from jumping.

Egg-crate will decrease the light from LEDs
+1 on clear netting works like a charm :) and relitivly cheep - lot less than losing 4 fish.
