I'm thinking of ditching my glass tank cover to help with my temperature problems (and get that beneficial gas exchange all the kids are talking about).
But I'm wondering if i could paint the white light diffuser black to make it more aesthetically pleasing.
Has anyone ever done this? What type of paint would you recommend?

Why use a cover at all? Do you plan on stocking a carpet surfer?

Baby-steps to an open-top system. I switched over to the egg crate and it turns out that I really don't notice the white at all. Still having temp issues. I'm thinking about getting some mounting legs for the lights to raise them up a few inches. Will this help?

I just bought black egg-crate from RONA.

    They have four colours:

    white, black, silver, gold.

I suspect the silver and gold have been painted. The black and white apparently are not.

What's a RONA? Is that some sort of home improvement store? Thanks for the tip!

A "RONA" would be the equivalent to a "Home Depot".
