That mesh screen top is brilliant. I can't believe I didn't think of that.

A user by the name of "Jimsflys" on RC is the one who first brought the idea forward a few years ago. Many people still call them a jimsflys top.

my contraption did not work. I dont know how, but I managed to have a diamond goby jump out of my tank sometime today.

I will be going to buy some actual screening material. Hopefully I can find the same thing that JKU's link had, but I looked and could not find it there. The guy that was helping us seemed stunned that I was trying to do this to a fish tank, so he had no clue how to help us.

If I cannot find that material, I will be using either a fiberglass or aluminum screen material. I have seen people online saying that they have used this and that it works fine. I will let you guys know how this works.

I still have no clue how that goby managed to get through the openings :\

I see Bulk Reef Supply is sold out of the clear mesh. You really want 1/4". Anything bigger is too big.

I got mine off eBay; you may find some there.

his netting is the exact same as mine, but instead he overlapped it twice to make the holes smaller. I will try doing this tonight and see if I can fix it to make the holes smaller

I decided to scrap the netting and use aluminum screen instead. This way there is absolutely no way a fish can get out.

The netting was very loose when trying to get it multilayered and I didnt want to risk a fish getting caught! I feel much better knowing nothing can make it out now!

I used bird netting as the screen. You will get minimal light loss this way. Got any pics?

thats exactly what I had, and it still managed to jump.

this screen actually was a "lighting" one to stop the loss of light. I couldnt tell a difference whenever I put it over the tank
