I need some eggcrate to finish my sump/refugium and I wanted to make sure there wasn't a certian type of eggcrate to use that will not add toxins to the water, and can you get this at a local store. ;D

It's a plastic light diffuser. I've been using it for years with no problems. I don't know the manufacturer but it is all pretty much the same. I get mine from home depot, it comes in pretty large sheets but it's easy to cut. I doubt you'll have a choice when you get there as they usually only carry one.

I'm curious as to what you're using it for in your sump...I'm planning my sump now and I'm looking for any and all design ideas...

I used it in my small fuge to keep the macro from making its way to the main tank. It's a good divider that doesn't slow down flow.

I also used some in my sump as a frag shelf.

This is the plans I started with. I already have the tank (30L), pump, and all my dividers cut ready to seal. I need the egg-crate for the top and bottom of the LR rubble that I want the water to trickle over after it returns from the skimmer and before it goes in the Refugium. Still a little new at this and after studying this for about 3 weeks with a lot of questions this is what I have come up with. Criticism is very welcome being a new-be!;D

Looks similar to the sump/fuge I'm designing. I'm also planning on using my Remora in my sump. Are you planning on increasing the length of the intake tube for the pump or are you just going to have a high water level in that section of the sump? And what sized pump are you using for your return?

I am going to have high water in the intake part of the sump to just get some volume added. The walls on the baffles on each side of the refugium is 10" tall. My sump/fug is going in a room next to the the display tank so I will have a 11'8" head on the return pump. I am going to plan on a 3/4 or maybe a 1" return. My overflow is rated for 600 gph so I got a Mag 1800 so I could keep about 500 gph at that much head without using a external pump (don't want to drill glass). May have to put a T-valve in to re-route some of the flow back if it's too much. I am probably figuring something wrong but I guess that is the way you learn. I will probably start sealing baffles in tonight if I get home early enough.

I still have to draw out my plan and do the math for the flow. I've got a 400 gph overflow anda Mag7 for a return pump. I'm planning on running the return through a SCWD (if i was good and santa brings me one for x-mas).
Of course, to install the sump I'm going to have to move my whole tank onto a cabinet...so we'll see how soon I jump into it all.
    Good luck with the construction!

I may have oversized the pump with all the head pressure I am running so I will probably hook up a T valve up and return some of the pressure back to the sump to keep a good constant gph. Anyone else had to do that kind of plumbing???? I work with robots not plumbing so pretty green there:-/
