So I've been doing the chemical tests since I've started this hobby and I've been eyeing the monitors/electronic testers such as Pin Point for a while now.I really haven't heard anything good said about them, what little I've heard has been bad such as they are not accurate and you're having to replace the probes, which are almost as much as the monitor, pretty frequent.
Looking for some reviews/advice on these babies.Stick with the boring old test kits, the electronics are a waste of money or buy it you won't regret it?

Geoff, I use Pin Point probes and love them for their accuracy. If you take good care of the probe they will last you a long while without need of replacing. Every 6 months or so I calibrate to make sure they are in good shape.

I did receive a PH probe that did not last long - not even a year. But generally this is not the case. Use the probe and dip it in fresh water and return it to its case and you will find a long life of accuracy ahead of you.

The only one that drives me batty is my Orp probe, this I need to leave in the water as it controls my ozone – I need to replace this one annually, its $75 so really no biggie compared to the benefits of my ozinator.

i use a pH probe pen. It failed after 7 months. It was like $30 on eBay. I contacted the seller and they agreed to send me a new one for $20.

Maybe I could've argued the whole 1 year warranty thing... but it wasn't worth it to me... I wanted to keep the relationship there so I can replace it again in another 7 months ;)

But it works great and is so easy that it encourages me to test my pH much more often... which got obsessive... and now I'm back down to once a week ;)

    Here's a pic of it:
