Just something I've had on my mind for a couple weeks now and I wanted to see what people thought. I've only been in the hobby nine months but I find it fascinating and this is interesting.

I fell in love with elegance coral when I made the jump from FOWLR to reef tank and knew it had to be the first coral I bought. So back on 4/21 I bought my beloved elegance coral, with some pretty slim research mind you. After about a week or so, thorough research (ending in a poor track record), and ICH killing off everything else I was pretty sure my elegance days were numbered; that was until the past week and a half or so.

Summer has finally decided to hit Buffalo and while it's not too warm it's sunny. From what I gathered direct sunlight is not good for a reef tank unless completely sustained by direct sunlight but I'm pretty sure my elegance is responding well. It only gets about two-three hours a day (when it's sunny) and I keep the blinds closed b/c of my tank but those are the times of day it looks best. This thing is the size of my fist and a couple weeks ago, I thought it was dead, so dead I bought a frogspawn to recoup my loss.

After my research, I found good water and good lighting was key to elegance coral success, is it really possible the sunlight is helping? Before it got sunny, everything else was growing and opening up just fine but the elegance coral was struggling.

It may be, it all depends from where the coral was harvested.
