Just picked this one up and my local Petsmart of all places for $48.99! I thought it was a steal at that price so I grabbed it up! Anyways, I usually don't buy on impulse and know what my livestock's needs include, except today.

I'm just looking for some tips on this type of coral, feeding, lighting, that sort of thing.

Here's a few crummy pics so you can see how it looks after a few hours in my tank.

the mortality rate of ec's in our systems is extremely high. Care must be taken to never touch the flesh due to their weak ability to fight infection. Feed it with small pieces of shrimp or silverside

Where is its skeleton cone base? The ones near Australia are very hardy. The Indonesian ones usually die. Good Luck

Not sure I follow you? Right now its in the sand in the center of my tank. Should I try and find a better home for it? When they die is it as bad as an anemone?

As long as it's not getting blasted by a powerhead (and assuming you have enough light for it), it should be fine where it is. Avoid moving it around because as has been mentioned, you could accidentally damage the flesh by touching it too much. It should do fine for you if you leave it alone and if your water and lights are good. Feed it small chunks of meaty foods once a week.

I hate to be pessimistic but at that price and where you got it, that elegance is clearly an indo piece.... I wish you the best of luck but it will most likely wither away in the next 6 months or so tops....

I have yet to see anyone keep an Indo elegance for more than a year, at least any of the ones that have been collected in the last 4-5 years....

If you keep it alive, record what you do, maybe it will help others, OR you got a GOOD piece and if thats the case go buy a lotto ticket!! :D
