Hi people, just picked up a nice elegance coral from my lfs, now I read they like moderate flow and to be placed in the sandbed. Various sources said to never mount on live rock. I had it on the rock before reading that was a bad idea.
My question is will it get enough light at the bottom of my 24inch tank? I only have 2 24inch t5 bulbs, one white, one blue. Should I get more lighting? And if so would 2 more blue be better? Or 2 of each colour?

Sorry kinda got into a different thread there at the end but hey what can ya do!

Hi Fezz , Im not 100% sure on the not mounting on live rock aspect, but problem with this species is they are delicate, so a topple due to activity of snails or hermits can cause them damage of they fall whilst expanded , the skin when inflated is easily pierced, thats also why you should not handle them whilst expanded, and wafting over them to get them to close up before moving them, and even then handled by the rock or frag disc they are attached to is best rather than grab at the stem/ branches

so placing on the bottom, reduces the risk of being knocked off a ledge and damaged

More lighting would IMO be great for you, not strictly for this species, but in general, you are going to struggle with choices under just 2 x PCS - get 2 more, 1 of each,

someone else can come on later and verify that you would be even better choosing T5s - - 4 of them would be even better over your tank IMHO - and IME - I use T5s not PCs

one other piece of advice Via a lesson learned the hard way, if your doing water changes directly into your main tank , do not/ make sure you do not, pour the new water directly onto this coral, my 7 head specimen became a 6 head specimen after I failed to ensure I was carefull with my new water addition.

The lights I have are a t5s, all I know is one is white and one is blue.. Not sure of output or anythin. Would this blue globe be an actinic? I like the bluey kinda colour I see in some tank pics. I also want to run actinic lights an hour extra morning and night for looks and a more gradual transition through lighting. That means actinic have to be on seperate setup from whites.
Sorry I'm completely off topic now, might start a thread in lighting.

its cool, dont worry, T5S great (My mind must have been on another thread sorry)

yes 2 more T5s once Actinic Blue and 1 10K white - to give you a total of 2 actinic blue and 2 x 10k white would be great IMHO (check the white one you have is 10k or more, any lower and they are plant lights and good for algae)

    Hi Fezz

honest answer, best advice now from me is to post this same question on Dr. Fragenteins T5 questions and answers thread in the lighting section
he might miss the question on this thread.

welcome - Dr Frag, knows a lot about T5 lighting (as do many others so no offence to them) but there may be a lot of clues on lighting types. colours, options if you check the thread
