Ok, i finally got the right size pvc for this phase of my build. Had some problems with the first pvc's b/c trying to balance such a heavy rock on such a tiny toothpick, DOESN'T WORK!. As you can tell by my pic, i started using three 1 inch pvc and after several attempts (mostly failed attempts lol, pvc collapsing), went to the hardware store and found a much BIGGER pvc. It's 1 1/2 wide on top, and the base is wider at 2 inches (there is a plumbing term for this piece, not sure what it's called..well inside the base is threads, so some connector piece). Then hacked it to 1 1/2 inch total height from base to top.
I was fortunate to have these LR shaped almost like a flat triangle shape, as if the shape of your hand if you were holding a serving tray, but at a foot long and about 8 in wide. These rocks are much heavier than the rest of my stash, which is good. As long as the heavier rocks are on the bottom (acting like an building floor foundation) supported by these bigger and better pvc, if I "accidentally" knock over a piece of LR, it will be from the top (upper floors) section were the LR are lighter pieces.
So, to sum it up, if you are going to attempt to do it this way, make sure: -Bottom support rock or base rock is heavy. Well heavier than what's going to be put atop.
-Use as many pvc's to balance the weight of the rock (I used 3/rock for mine).
-Push down on rock, give it a little shake, just basically making sure it will be able to hold and support what's going to go on top
And finally, here's a couple pics of what I've got so far!! Let me know what you think!....(it's back in the tank for me)...more pix soon!

    Happy Reefing Every1!

Not sure why it's not showing. Did the same thing with last post. I also loaded the two pics under "member gallery".

    did you use photobucket?

i find it much easier loading pictures to photobucket and to just copy and paste to the "post reply" page

hope you get things sorted out so we can see what you're working with
