    Allo,

My name is Matt, obviously. I didn't actually think I would get this name, but I was sick of my pseudo-name and figured I would give it a shot, and look, I am simply Matt. Enough of that!

I currently have a 45 gal FW planted tank with some misc fishes and such. But I also help with my wifes 16 gal nano salt water setup. basically if its ugly or slimy, I am the one to touch it, not her. Other than that, I finally have my own tank and thought I would go ahead and start posting here even though all I have is a tank. My wife is "Kate" by the way, she just recently joined.

The main reason I joined is because I am apparently patient with my tanks, as opposed to everything else in life, and this will be a long slow process of building, planning, buying, etc etc.

So, lets just get right into my plans! First I will be cleaning the nice dirty 75 gallon tank which I got for free. I am going to be using vinegar and razor to remove all the coraline. After that I will be trying my hand at removing the top frame, if you look closely at the pictures, you will see that the frame has been melted by a heat lamp or something. The center brace was melted all the way through so absolutely must be replaced otherwise I might have some bowing going on.

After these, I will probably end up either drilling the tank or paying to get it drilled by a LFS. The next step will be to build my own stand, I am a design drafter by trade and am apparently good at structural design, so I will be designing the whole thing using the builds on this site for reference.

I also have to come up with a sump, repair a 4' PC light fixture I got for free, and hopefully get this all done before winter so that I can get my car back into the garage before the snow! Other than that, I have no idea how to describe what I want to do with the liverock, other than the fact that I will be buying mostly base rock and seeding it with small bits of LR, and use simply aragonite sand rather than live sand.

I think that is long winded enough for my first post. Glad my wife found this site, I am part of several forums, and this is going to become my main forum I think.

Thanks for the warm welcome already everyone. Regardless of if I ask for it or not, please feel free to point out anything in my plans that you have questions with, being questioned helps me think of things I may have missed. I am working on reading through some of the articles of this page at the moment, just to get some more research in.

mission, I am actually originally from Oregon, springfield (eugene) specifically. Have only been in Minnesota for a few years now.

OH, I forgot one thing! I need advice on how to remove old paint from the back of a tank? The tank is currently painted blue on the back, but it has chips everywhere, I would rather remove it and then paint it black.

thanks again for the welcome, I am sure I will enjoy the forum
