So I bought an ELOS Mag test kit today. I went ahead with a test...After the 4 part test I stopped on the last part as I added as many drops as the first reagent which makes the results unclear. Maybe I have way to much Mag? I do dose it twice a week....I'm lost.

I will test again after a WC. Anyone use these kits?

Never used the elos kit but I do use the salifert kit. When did you start dosing and testing? I may be misunderstanding but from what I am reading it appears that you have been dosing without testing (I maybe wrong). this could potiently be the reason why it appears your mag is to high. A good rule of thumb I use is test, retest, dose. If I get a reading that is low I will retest to verify results before I dose. JM2C

Did you only test once or are you getting the same type of result each and every time you test? I use this test kit also. I had to raised my Mg to 1700 (Bryopsis). When my water tested 1700, I counted 39 drops of the phase 1 reagent A before the vial turned green and in phase 2, added 5 drops of reagent B, 1 scoop of reagent C (small scoop) and only used 5 drops of reagent D before the vial turned blue. Subtracted the 5 drops of D from the 39 drops of A (34) and multiplied that by 50 and got 1700.

I have used the ELOS brand test kit for almost 4 years & have never had a single issue. Even when they expire they still read fine.

    Things to remember.

    1. What the expiration date? The tests do have dates on the top, back, or at the bottom.
    2. Where did you buy it & how were the kits stored? I have spoken to the owner ELOS USA on several occasions. Great guy to speak to. He told me that the distributors of ELOS kits, must have a climate controlled storage area in their warehouse & inventory must be cycled. You must store the kits in a cool place. ELOS USA has their kits shipped from Italy to the USA via Overnight Air. Unlike other test mfg that have theirs shipped via a cargo ship.
    3. The liquid bottles must be shaken before each use.
    4. When adding the powder, you MUST use the small scoop.
    5. Your Mag could be off the chart. If you call ELOS USA, he'll walk you through on seeing if that's the case.

    Best of luck.. :)
