I ordered an Elos Osmocontroller recently and am wanting to use kalkwasser in the top off water with this unit. I've been trying to find a video or walk through on how to setup this type of pump with kalk, but am coming up a bit short. I don't have the Elos ato just yet, it's on the way, and I won't be setting up my tank for another month at least, but I'm trying to get everything planned ahead of time.

From what I understand, the pump that the Elos Osmocontroller uses is submersible, so it'd sit at the bottom of my top off water reservoir. Reading about kalkwasser and mixing it, I don't want to use the bottom portion of the mixture that settles on the bottom of the reservoir. Is my only option to setup some kind of stand or mount inside my top off jug to set the pump on?

    Thanks.

Why not use a kalk reactor?

This is for a 28 gallon (and maybe a 58 gallon in the future) and I think a reactor would be overkill. I basically have no room for one with the equipment I'll be using, too.

eggcrate will work well, i have a double layer of it covering the entire bottom of my ato/top off water container. i have been dosing kalk threw my ato for over a year now, i started doing it in dec of 2010. after a while you will get a feel for how much to use, keep an eye on your ph, a ph probe is a good idea in your sump or tank to check daily.
i have mine on a controller that turns the ato off if my ph goes above 8.35 i like to keep it around 8.20

also you could mix your kalk in another container, let it settle than add that to your top off container

I may do that and just mix it in another container.

If I were to mix it in my ato container and needed to refill the water, I would want to empty the ato container first and start with completely fresh kalkwasser, right?

I definitely plan on getting some kind of controller with a ph monitor within the next few months. Was looking at the Reef Keeper Elite.

no i keep adding kalk to the ato container i clean the container about every 4 months. the egg crate keeps a lot of it settled to the bottom, you will find you will be adding less kalk since the settled kalk is still working. this is why i say a ph monitor is a must doing it this way. the ph tells you how much or little kalk is needed. at times i skip adding kalk and just fill the water. do at least 2 layers of egg crate, three might even be better. i have been using 2 layers
