I bought a Green Emeral Crab 4 weeks ago. After placing it in the tank it quickly went for the rocks and I have not seen the crab since. I believe they are nocturnal but hiding this much? Is this normal?

Yep. Until our 2 new girls figured out my hand in the tank means I'm feeding them, we never saw them unless we looked after lights-out.

Yeah, you'll hardly ever see them unless ya hand feed them. I had one that used to come out and clamp on my hand with one claw while eating his treat with the other. He'd hold on till it was done, even while i worked in the tank. It was funny until he got bigger, then more painful than funny. Just find them, grab a small piece of NORI, seaweed pellet or really anything, and hold your hand near it, they learn quick ;)

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
That is kind of why I like them. They do their job and it's a small thrill when you eventually see them, yeah I need a life.

Thank you all! I will try feeding and see if I can entice the crab to come out.

Yeah, I saw my crab tonight! I was siiting on top of a rock munching away on some algae. So he seems to be alive and well and just not coming out during daylight.

We originally had 3 large males, and they were always out all day long. We managed to get 2 small females this time, and I've read the females are much more shy. They're definitely smarter, though...they grab the food instead of the feeder and they don't swing their claws wildly and entirely miss the food like the males did LOL. Oh, and they never toss the food away like the males would if they decided it wasn't on the menu that day.
