I want to get at least one red or green emerald crab for my 20 gallon tank to help with the cleaning. Not sure if it a good idea or not though. I do not want it eating corals obviously. Anyone with experience have any suggestions?

also, If there is a different crab that is better suited let me know

Do you have any hermit crabs? Because an emerald can get quite large.

I have had emerald crabs munch on zoa's. Never had issues with them eating anything else but I have had them eat zoa's in my tank.

Emeralds aren't really worthwhile unless you've got a bubble algae problem. They are not known to eat corals, but they are an opportunistic feeder and have been known to eat people's favorite fish.

I'm not a huge fan of any crab, with the exception of hermit crabs.

I agree with them being possible coral eaters, but as of yet, mine have not. I feed them seaweed on a clip every other day, and that seems to keep them in line. i have noticed a few slivers of fin missing on a couple of my fish as well.

In the end, I would find another kind of crab, but you have to admit this is entertaining!

ya I have a few hermits and plan on getting several more. If the emerald crab isn't ideal then is there any other crab out there that is less destructive?

    i.e a smaller species?

well, these arent known as CUC crabs, but they are awesome. they are filter feeders, and they wont harm a thing.

I had an "emerald" crab that ate gsp and nothing else. I still have the bubble algae.
