my emerald crab is turning white....although i seem to b having a ph balance problem... my acordia's wont open as wide as usual and when i add 10 drops of ph up they tend to open alot more and the bubble coral is much better as well. what could case a drop in ph and cause a emerald crab turn white. my normal tests seem ok i do not have a ph test kit yet.
    any idea's are helpfull.

Can you post the results from the test kits you do have? That will be a start on solving this.

Here is a thread about the emerald crab problem:

Muffasa, There are a couple of reasons why your PH would drop. Too much CO2, overfeeding and not enough buffer -- generally this is it, not having enough carbonate hardnss to buffer.

Do you use RO/DI and perform water changes? If so do weekly changes and add buffer if needed and you should level out.

You shouldn't be adding pH up if you don't know what your pH is, IMO.

I'd recommend getting an electronic pH monitor over a test kit. The tests for pH are hard to read IME.

I have a "pen" monitor. I just stick it in when I want to know and I get results instantly. It was like twenty bucks on eBay. Cheaper than some of the tests.

The crab may be getting ready to molt.

we learn by expermintation do's n dont's. farmer bob sez do this jackass terry sez do that. this site has helped me in many ways...yea i added ph as a test and ya know what my guess was right it was low.. i add ph.up and my ricordia's opened nicely like when i first got them... i also done some other things to my tank that i have been reading on and doin research... so if farmer bob sez do this n jackass terry sez no dont who the hell do u listen to. u listen to one or the other and in the end u run a ''experiment''. ok enough rantin bout that. what i have done is been doin alot of reading on bubble coral and ricordia's.... i know bubble corals need or thrive with 400ppm of calcium in the tank and both the ricordia's,zoa;s and bubble coral tend to like a another supplement i have at home... as for im not there at the moment...metolydine or some **** like that.... i do aproximately 5-9 gallons of water weekly.

thanks for those who are tryin to help me instead of critisize me.... yea i been here since feb. im learnin as i go i read n read what others have tried. thanks again.... peace
