    Emerald crab got huge.

We bought an emerald crab about 3 months ago to help with algea control and he worked great, we had another one before that which we got from reefs2go.com but he was a pail red. When we got him he was maybe at the most an inch around now he is pushing 3.5, im amazed at how fast and big he got.

Two questions how big can these guys get? Do they actually eat red algea, we have some small patches that keep going away, but they sprout back up later?

    lol...

but ya back on topic, i always thought emerald crabs were called that because they are an emerald green color... not pink or red. and that they are good for eating bubble algae too. then again i've only been thinking this for about 1 minute and haven't done any research

red shells i believe is from a late molt. or possibly the red ones are found at a deeper depth. i've also heard they turn green from the algae they eat.

Its a red mithrax crab (Mithrax Ruber) rather than a green emerald crab (Mithrax Sculptus).

They are two different species although closely related.
