Emperor 400

Hi, i started a cycle of SW yesterday but my 1 of my emperor 400 filter is making weird noises, do i need 2 to cycle or can i just use 1 for now until i figure why its making that noise

 

it's probably just not primed. does it sound like it's sucking air? or the motor is making a weird noise? and one filter should be fine actually.... how big is your tank? anything under a 60 gal. you can only use one. you really don't need to use two of them

is the center pull thing in the up position?

 

hi cutting grass, thanks for your help yesterday...by the way yes he did use copper medication but i cant find yesterdays conversation so that i can go buy what you told me too. as for the tank its 55 gal, the pull hickey is all the way up and the reservoir is to the top maybe its the impeller but if i dont need both of these filters i would just eliminate one of them, would that be okay

No Problem!! That is correct, you don't need both. One will suffice. Do you have or will you be getting a protein skimmer? Oh yeah, the impeller down under there is probably not seated right. a good wiggle might do it.

NP! do you have a protein skimmer or are you going to get one after your cycle is finished? you'll need one when you add fish

 

yes i will be getting a protein skimmer and sump during the cycle process, will that be okay, can i also put some damsel fishes in there in a few weeks to help with the process or no? i was told it would help, what do you think?

 

Yes that's good! Should start the sump at the same time, but it's cool, it'll work. Yes you can either put a damsel in there or a piece of raw peeled shrimp(that you eat). either will work. As far as the skimmer, I had an AquaC Remora. Great skimmer for a 55 and at a good price! Read some of the threads on here. Do a search and put in skimmer or protein skimmer and read up. You've got plenty of time right now!!
