At what age do emperor angels change their look from black marble to adult coloration?

It all varies on the fish. I have a adult blue face angel and it's only 3 inches big give a bit. Most of the times juvinial fish never seem to make a full transition in aquarium life with the large angels. generally I see them adult size for sale around 5 to 7".

Thanks. I was curious to find out. Just planning for the future when I can get a 150+ tank.

I hear that often, yet I have never seen a large adult with juvi colors. Mine has just about changed completely. Here he is in QT on 2-28-2009.

This one is from 8-18-2010. He has been changing for 5 or 6 months. His tail is solid yellow.

The Blueface has changed very quickly in comparison. The first picture is from 7/11 and the last one is from 8/18. The pictures don't do this fish any justice. It is much more colorful than the Emperor now.

Often, My old blueface I had in my Reef started to change but stopped. Let me know when your blue face gets its eyespot on the caudal fin.

No sign of the eye spot. I'll try to get an updated picture, the colors are even more vibrant now. The BF started to change once he began to assert himself. He's out in the open more, and much more aggressive at feeding time.

Originally, the Emperor was the smaller of the two, but has grown to be the largest fish in the tank. Besides the Hawk, the BF is the smallest. They all started out eating NLS pellets, and they are fed twice a day.
