Depending on skimmer should just screw on/off or pull out..... I personally use a icecream bucket to transfer the cup to toilet, then dump , wipe with paper then rinse clean everything under fres water in sink...

    Should be pretty easy...

Pick it up and carefully take it to the sink and dump it...? Seriously though, just put it over a bowl or container or something just in case.

Ummm, you do have to turn the skimmer off, not sure exactly what you meant by "not getting water everywhere".

I don't turn mine off, I wish it produced that much skimmate that I had to turn it off to clean the cup!! :)

You will not really notice it that much but your skimmer will end up producing more skimmate at times and less at other times depending on many variables.

Should just be able to pull it off or unscrew it, take it to the bathroom, empty, rinse, and return to skimmer. It's not just going to pour all over when you take it off, unless you tilt it.

    1. unplug it from power source.
    2. unscrew the ring that holds the assembly to the skimmer.
    3. keep entire upper collection cup assembly upright, and carry it to a sink.
    4. pour waste contents out. Clean entire collection cup assembly. Dry with paper towel.
    5. Reassemble.
    6. Plug back in.
    7. Wait 1-2 weeks.
    8. Repeat steps 1-7.

It shouldn't be half full of water. I'd be more concerned with it being half full of water instead of half full with skimmate.

Sounds like you need to tune it a bit or adjust your water level, depends on your skimmer but it definitely should not be putting water in the cup.
