I have a Remora --all I do is get a paper towel, lift the cup out and carry it to the sink. I then clean the cup and put it back. I don't have to turn off the skimmer.

What everyone else has said. My skimmer emptying procedure is thus:

    -lift collection cup
    -take to sink
    -remove lid
    -rinse
    -wipe down with paper towel
    -repeat rinse
    -attach lid
-stick the collection cup onto the skimmer

Piece of cake. The more often you empty your skimmer, the less gunk you have to deal with. Ours is emptied every other day now.

Do you pour it out into the sink or just take it there, remove the lid and start rinsing? :p j/k

see above photo (and instructions), remove parts 1,2,3 all together, take to the sink remove part 1 pour in sink, rinse, remove any gunk from the collection tower with tooth brush or paper towel. If you are getting alot of water you need to roll down that rubber o-ring (part 3) gradually until you stop getting so much water.

So what about the the fact that your skimmer cup is filling with water? This is not good.
