I believe that I have my skimmer dialed in but was curious how often do you change your collection cup. I have a hose on mine going to a 2 liter bottle and so far I have been averaging changing it every 3 - 4 days. What would it be if I was doing a dry skimming or wet skimming? Opinions and thoughts are greatly appreciated.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !

    That is a tough one.

With the type of fish you have and the bio-load you want that skimmer to be as efficient as possbile.

For fish I would run the skimmer somewhat wet and for a tank dominated by corals such as sps run it on the dry end.

as stated by Corailline above, it varies from tank to tank depending on the bio load
and from skimmer to skimmer depending on the efficiency of the unit being used

there are no hard and fast rules re the amount of skimmate being produced

but IMO - yours sounds like it performing fine

Dry skimming you would empty it less often but it would be harder to clean (gunk to water ratio is higher)

for me ever since I've rerun my swc bio-pellets the skimmer cup is taking 3 days to fill up before I empty...
as for the skimmer dialed at dry skimming..

Why run it on the dry end? Is that for the feeding of the sps's?

Thanks Steve. I am not use to it being that smelly.

I will be doing the pellets in the near future. I am pretty sure from your experience I will have to redial it in.
