Engineer causing nitrate spike?

    Oh you can't have that in a DSB at anytime , All the sludge build up is being uncapped and then all the captured organics are being released into the water column thats Bad Ju Ju for a 3 to4 sand bed it may well wipe out you tank.. Getting any little problem with algae ? or NO2 , Ammonia levels ? The elevated nitrates may be all that is keeping these 2 issues in check ? The first mistake people with DSB make is to stir it up. Never add a sand sifting anything to a DSB he is eating the micro organisms that keep the sand bed working and you may well need to replace then anyways ? It is required to replace them yearly anyways .

    I don't have any algae issues but I do have what appears to be Dinoflagellates.
    I haven't turned the daytimes on for two day and it seems to be helping.
    I have a blue spotted jawfish too but he doesn't seem to move nearly as much sand. I said 3-4 inches but it may only be an inch in some spots there are spots probably as deep as 4".
