i think their big thing is digging holes and such, so all your rock has to be secure. any fish will jump if something scares it enough

-not from personal experience, just from what i have read.

These fish get massive. And your rockwork had better be on the bottom of the tank and extremely secure. There will not be one grain of sand undisturbed.

On the other hand, they are awesome in their adult form.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
I had one jump several years ago, but I just do not hear a lot about these fish much anymore.

And it is not a true goby so that works in your favor. They just call it a goby because it burrows.

They are in the family Pholidichthyidae, not Gobiidae.

I think it's also because they look like a goby when young, are shyish fish, and really don't have another group of fish, like eels, that they belong to. I mean, they are much like an eel, but the temperament probably does it.

I think any fish has a chance of jumping if startled, or if chasing food above the water line (my oscar and parrots used to jump and grab food above the water all the time). I don't think they're known "no reason" jumpers like wrasses or jawfish, though.

I have two In my tank and they spend their days together hanging out in the sand caves under the rock. They come out to
eat, nice to watch when they decide to
    come out.... :)
