Okay, so I admit Im a little Geeky....just wanted to say that in advance...

Anyway, I was watching PBS last night, and they had a special on about E.O. Wilson, who is the father of Sociobiology - basically the idea that genetics contributes to behavior (more to it that that I know...but in a nut shell anyway).

One of the things he is also known for is being a great ecologist and environmentalist. He is a professor at Harvard as well. He has started this web site Encyclopedia of Life, the Encylopedia of Life. It is really kind of cool. They are dedicating one page to every single organizism on the planet. They will add to it as new organisms are discovered.

If you go out there and enter in a common name...like Yellow Tang for example...it will link you to the page and you can learn all about the fish. It is pretty cool. Right now it is still in the works, and the information is mainly at the scientific level, but eventually it is supposed to be THE place to go and get info an all critters.

    Check it out...

Yeah, I get the impression that they just started. Also, looks like they are trying to keep it very accurate and only allow qualified people to update it...not like a wiki for example. Should be interesting to see how this develops.

    Give them a break.

Is really a cool project, but is one that will never be completed...

No end of critters that will have to be added.

May take years just to cover a small percentage of known species...

    I like it.

    Thanks for sharing link.
