epoxy puttin' a hurt on colt coral

I recently epoxied in some new trumpet frags with some costruction epoxy(reef safe from lfs) and immediately after application , shriveled and has been that way for two days. Anybody have any input?

 

Anyone out there?? It's only getting smaller. Help

 

Ahhh...youre OK. As long as you didnt damage the heads somehow or get glue on them. Its just being cranky. If tank params are where they shouold be that is.

 

Did you put the epoxy directly on the coral or on a piece of rock attached to the coral?

Edit: Is this a colt coral or a trumpet coral? Two completely different animals

 

oOo...yeah, all I saw was trumpet. If its a colt It could remain shriviled up for some time. If it is a colt coral is the glue holding it to the rock OK? One of the slimiest things I ever handled. Cant see how the glue would ever stick to the coral. Tough to frag.

 

If its a colt and it was touching the epoxy there is a good chance it won't survive. Epoxy should never be used on soft corals because the heat it creates when curing will kill them. If it was a trumpet as long as the epoxy only touches the dead stem it will be fine.

When attaching soft corals you should only use Super glue, toothpicks, wedding veil, rubber bands.

 

Just to clarify. I was using the epoxy to attach my trumpet frags throughout the tank. The epoxy used tends to cloud the water a little bit. My Colt Coral seems to have been affected. Or, this seems to be my assumption. The colt has been established(growing rapidly)Tha and has never gotten wierd on me. Has anybody experienced colt shrinking for some reason? Is it as hardy as a kenya? Should I be worried about it dieing while at work and sliming my tank? Or, is this just a phase? Thanks for the help.

 

What kind of epoxy was it? What brand? Did you personally look up the MSDS sheets on it to make sure it was safe? A lot of epoxy's are safe once they have dried, but when they are still moist, they are not. Reef safe epoxy will not cloud the water, or atleast any I have used havent.
