I just picked up a 4 lb bag at WalMart and was wondering how I use this for increasing Mag.

I was going to buy the Kent Mag product at LFS but that was like $18.99...this was $3.49.

How do I mix this and add this to my tank? Also what is the ratio of this stuff to water? I have no clue about it so any help would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

depends on how much mag you want to raise.. let say:

    your water volume is 150g.

and you want to raise it the max of 100pm a day

you daily dose of epsom salt would be 19oz.. (so a little over 1 pound)

I would mix this with 2 gallons of fresh ro topoff water. stir and let totally dissolve.

slowly pour 1 gallon into sump, wait 1-2 hours, and slowly pour other gallon in.

test mag next day and it should have risen 100pm. try to get mag 1200-1400 range, unless your going higher for other reasons. higher your salinity more mag it will hold. you'll want 1.024-1.026 range.

I think I just want to get my Mg up...if I need to raise my Calcium or Ph I use the 2 part Kent Product for now, Tech A & B.

So just mix it as night rida said with RO water and I should be all set right?

I have been upping my mag levels by simply mixing epsom salt with RODI water and adding that to my sump. I know a few other people that do it that way too. If you already dose calcium (and keep it at a good level that way), you definitely don't want to add more calcium, unless you want you alkalinity to drop.

yes. whats your mag currently testing at? also my info is directly from 3reefs' additive calculator located on the rightside of your screen. you enter your water volume and current mag levels and where you want your mag to be. and also what you are using "epsom salt" and it will tell you how.

Is a low Mg related to a high Kh?
My Mg is 1100 and my Kh is 16

Here were my test results from 10 minutes ago:
    Kh 16
    Ca 420
    Nitrite 0
    Mg 1100
    Ph 8.2

It's more related to an unbalanced Calcium:kH ratio, or low numbers of both.
