    If you only have softies and a few LPS, why are you dosing in the first place? I've been keeping a mixed reef, softies, LPS and a clam for 2+ years and don't dose a thing :) regular water changes works wonders!

    i got a bunch of lps and a few sps. i left the entire top legde of my aquascape to load up with sps. as of now everyother wed. is my water change day. dosing calcium and alkalinity now shouldnt hurt

    Dosing is only done if regular water testing shows you have something below the recommended level and that substance is in fact necessary for the health of the system.

    Dosing just to dose or because someone told you to without regular testing will lead to trouble. If you don't test for it and know in fact you need it then do not put it in your system period. Things like bottled blends of supplements containg who knows what are a nightmare, you need a good test kit for each and every ingredient in those supplements or things will eventually get out of balance and its tough to correct.

    A calcium reactor actually controls or supplements alkalinity as well as calcium, its kind or mis named with only the word calcium in the title. George talks about it in his instructions here:
