I have a nice sized zebra dwarf lionfish and he is about 3.5 to 4 inches in length and I feed him every three days as I do with my eel who is in the same tank. I feed him nice sized ghost shrimp and feed him about 3-4 and during the three days I feed him one in between as a treat if hes very active. My eel doesnt go for the shrimp but he does for the goldfish which my lion has no interest in. I also feed him guppies every other week to switch it up so he doesnt get bored with eating shrimp which they often get bored with eating the same thing like us. With guppies I feed about 3-4 and he seems content. I know that are lionfish are a bit different but you can judge on how much to feed him from the size of my lion. I had the same problem with mine and goldfish but as soon as I gave him shrimp and guppies he tore em apart and his colors are brighter as well, a nice bright red.
