I'm considering get one for my 20L to run a 10g sump. I'm just wondering how loud this thing is because I have the tank in my bedroom and I'm not too much of a sound sleeper.

    TIA

Set up right it's very quiet.

This video of mine shows it handling more flow than it's said to and still is pretty quiet.

I want to add that it has a 3/4" bulk head.

A bulk head of that size can't drain more than 300 GPH quietly. More than that you'll get the toilet flushing sound.

The box in my video was handling approximately 350 GPH, maybe a little more but I'd tuned the bulkhead with a piece of airline. To stop the flushing noise which comes from the drain needing more air than it can get. Providing it air via the tube kills the flush but you'll still have the slight running water sound. If you keep the flow around 200-250 gph this overflow will be nearly silent.

That sounds good. My return pump will probably only push around 160-180 gph with the head height. The return pump is what actually drives the flow, right?

When your talking flow through the box, yes.

    You won't be disappointed. :)

The diameter of pipe can also make a difference. See if the manufacturer offers a recommendation. I would atleast go 1-2 sizes larger than the pump output size if they dont.

agreed - the little airline tubing trick works wonders.

I have experimented with slightly larger tubing for my larger overflows with good results.
