I am about to get a skimmer and I was thinking about the PSK-75 to put in my sump. It says on foster and smith that it is a 3" diameter but at my LFS it would not fit in my sump. I was wondering if anyone has this skimmer and if there are newer/older versions. I can't be sure that it was even the 75 model, but that's what was on the shelf price tag.

The section I can place a skimmer in my sump is 3 3/4" wide.
So the big question is, will this skimmer fit? If not is there any skimmer you could recommend around the same price or less.

That will not fit unfortunately. The footprint is 9"x4". That is a very small section you have to work with. I don't have any other suggestions unfortunately.

Yea I think some diy is going to be the way to go. I have been looking at some custom makes and think I can get something going.

Do you know if I can run the pump in sump and then route it to the skimmer sitting on the shelf outside the sump? Would the skimmer be water tight or is there any leaking to worry about?

No, that won't work. At that point you would be better off with a HOB skimmer. I can recommend either the PSK-75H or 100H if you do go that route.

Will those work hanging on the sump or is it a DT option. I would prefer not to go with one in the DT but I will if needed.

You can use them on your sump as long as the water level is high enough.

Well I think I will give that a shot then! If the worst thing is that it has to hang on my dt, im not really in bad shape.
