So yesterday I recieved a new toy in the mail, my skimmer for the anemone prop tank I'm building. Anyways, I only had time to unbox it for now, but expect a full review in a week or so.
This skimmer was used for a short period by shackman, who did a great job with packing it.

    UNBOXING

    Model
    [IMG]
Info on side of box. Note photoshopped watermelon chalices.
Box next to a familiar object for most reefers
    [IMG]
    Everything from the box.
The box was chock full of these

    PARTS

    COLLECTION CUP
The cup lid was actually suprisingly well build for a skimmer at this price point, with a nice beveled ledge on the inside to fit well on the cup itself.

The cup itself had a nice beveled edge which again is something I would not have expected for something at this price. And instead of an O-Ring seal, some sort of double flap silicone seal which worked well and kept the cup on the body snugly without requiring too much effort to take it off the skimmer body.

Here is the cup assembled next to a small jar of NLS pellets. This thing is suprisingly tiny!

    PUMP
The pump is an "Atman Power Head PH1100"
    Here is what is written:

    Full pump

    SKIMMER BODY
Here is the body as it came in the box:
Base footprint and size next to another familiar object:
The base is about the size of one nori box
    [IMG]
By 2 boxes high (2 3/4 with collection cup)

    FIRST IMPRESSIONS
This thing is tiny, I thought it would be waaay bigger based on photos. Overall it looks well built

    GOOD
    Looks well built
    Nice finishing touches
    Great for small footprint sumps
    Skimmer cup attachment

    BAD
    No air silencer?
Pump mounted high on body, may affect performance in different water heights
Adjusting nob looks a bit fiddly
Instuctions, not many and (a bit more than) a few grammatical errors

Hope you like, I'll get the rest of the review when this thing gets wet!;D

I've been using mine now for about 8 months and it's been doing well for me. I went with this unit because the skimmer section in the sump is very small and this fits in perfectly. The adjustment is a little touchy, so I found an easier way to fine tune is how far I have the collection cup pressed in. Most of the time it's just very lightly set in and if I need to adjust skimming I press it in a little more.

As far as the skimmer noise, when I first got it the air hose was loud. An air stone solved that. At one point I took it off and it doesn't make any noise anymore.

I have found that I need to clean the pump every couple months.. which is a total pain in the butt with my setup. I actually just sat back down after doing just that!

Overall it does the job for me just fine. When I get a bigger setup I will consider a larger Eshopps skimmer if I get a good deal on it.

Yeah it wasnt to loud, it was in my sump under a stand tho that probably muffled it, i put some pvc lube on the collection cup, it helps taking it off easier, i never noticed the photoshopped chalice on the box, thats funny, enjoy it its a good skimmer!

Great review, E-shopps seem to do some nice skimmers. Looks like it could be a good option for smaller tanks, look forward to seeing how it goes.

Yeah.. Helped with adjusting it lol, still works like normal if not a little better, it restricted the flow a bit to help in those shallower situations ;D
